The Poverty Probability Index (PPI) is a survey that the Uganda Development Trust conducts on all selected United States African Development Foundation grantees in Uganda. The aim is to evaluate the level of poverty in that community. A project’s effects on a community must be assessed, and data comparing the before- and after-project periods reveals whether small-holder farmers were lifted out of poverty due to the initiative.
A sample of the members of the farmer cooperative is asked to reply to ten questions created by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) that measure the respondents’ level of poverty.
